These devices connect and help us in so many ways, but without protection, they are vulnerable to cyberattack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I worked with researchers at the <a href=\"https:\/\/gtri.gatech.edu\/\">Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI)<\/a> to develop a web-sonification system to help security professionals monitor IoT threats in realtime. The user would specify an area on a map, and hear a soundscape representing new devices and threats uncovered by the search engine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shodan.io\/\">Shodan<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Geolocated IoT Dashboard\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GoeOCLIghvM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As new devices enter, the ambient threat level in the area transforms a virtual auditory environment (e.g. beach, jungle, thunderstorm). Each device has a short one-shot sound representing its type.
